Well, here's the flipside of Grave of the Fireflies : it's Momotaro's Sea Eagles from 1943 depicting the Pearl Harbor attack. The attack force is made up of little birdies, bunnies, monkeys and bears, and the Americans are represented by Popeye's nemesis Bluto.

That was quite interesting to say the least. Never ceases to amaze me how those old WWII cartoons made war seem as mere child's play. I must ask, how did you come to find this video?

I ran across it on YouTube several months ago (since pulled) while looking for the live-action Japanese Pearl Harbor movie, Hawai Marei Oki Kaisen ( The War at Sea from Hawaii to Malaya ) Here's the attack scene from that one:

The director of special effects was Eiji Tsuburaya, who until his death in 1970 was best known here for the effects work in Toho's Godzilla films.
